Standard Clean vs. First Time Clean: Which One Do You Need?

You go to book a cleaner online, and the booking form asks whether you want a Standard Clean or a First Time Clean. If your home hasn't had a professional clean in the last 30 days, the answer is First Time Clean, and here's why that distinction changes what gets done.

What a First Time Clean covers

A First Time Clean is the required starting point for new clients, or for anyone whose home hasn't been professionally cleaned in the past month.

It's a wider scope than a maintenance visit: vacuuming under furniture, wiping down furniture surfaces, dusting blinds and vents, bringing every room up to a consistent baseline. It takes longer than a Standard visit because it's catching up on everything a regular cleaning schedule would normally have kept on top of.

What a Standard Clean covers

Once your home is at that baseline, a Standard Clean maintains it on a recurring schedule, weekly, bi-weekly or monthly. It covers the surfaces and areas that get dirty again between visits: kitchens, bathrooms, floors and general tidying.

It's built for upkeep, not for catching up.

Why the two-step approach exists

A Standard Clean can't guarantee its usual scope or quality on a home that hasn't had a baseline first. Skipping the First Time Clean means the crew spends a maintenance-length visit trying to catch up on months of buildup, which means something has to be cut.

The two-step approach protects the result: the first visit does the catching up, and every visit after that just maintains it.

Frequently asked questions

Can I skip the First Time Clean if my home already looks clean?

The requirement is based on when the home last had a professional clean, not how it looks. A home can look tidy on the surface and still have 30-plus days of buildup in the places a Standard Clean isn't scoped to catch.

How long does a First Time Clean take compared to a Standard Clean?

A First Time Clean takes longer because the scope is wider. It's covering ground a recurring schedule would normally have kept current.

What's the full checklist for each service?

Room-by-room checklists for both are published on each service page and on our FAQ page.

How much does each cost?

Pricing is calculated by bedroom and bathroom count at booking, shown instantly before you confirm. See the full breakdown on our pricing page.

What if I've had a cleaner before, just not this company?

The 30-day rule applies regardless of who did the last clean. If it's been over a month, book a First Time Clean.

Do I need a First Time Clean before a Move In / Move Out Clean?

If the home is particularly dirty on top of being empty, adding a First Time Clean to a Move In / Move Out booking may be recommended.
